Substance Abuse

Drug and Alcohol Therapy in Chicago

It’s hard to ask for help, especially with drugs and alcohol.  You might feel like you’ve “lost control” of your substance use. You may feel shame and low self-esteem.  These painful feelings often lead people to deny, minimize, and avoid their substance use. People may use drugs to manage their feelings, sense of self, and relationships.

How we can help

At Lakeview Center, we help you to manage your cravings for substances as well as to address the underlying problems that lead to them. Read more on the dynamics of substance abuse.

We take a flexible approach to problems with drugs and alcohol.  We recognize that each individual is unique. There is not one solution to these problems.  For many people moderation, rather than abstinence, may be an option.

We will work with you to help you understand the reasons you are using and to find more effective ways to manage life’s stressors.

The next phase

When you have stopped using drugs or have gotten your use under control, our therapists will focus on helping you to improve relationships, self-esteem, and self understanding.  This phase of therapy will help you avoid relapse and find more satisfaction in life.
